Port Blair, March 30: The Nehru Yuva Kendra, Port Blair organized a week long Non residential “Life Skills Education Camp” sanctioned by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India under the scheme of National Programme for Youth & Adolescent Development recently in the Community Hall, Neil Island. Altogether 40 adolescents participated in the camp.
The participants were distributed Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Materials related to HIV/AIDS, Health, substance abuse and Government’s National Flagship Programmes. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Tamanna Sengupta, Medical Officer, PHC; Neil Island. Besides she was the resource person had to sensitize on the topic of vulnerability of adolescent and issues. Mr Dasrat Verma, Zilla Parisad Member, Neil Island and other dignitaries were present in the inaugural function. On the outset of the programme Mr Kundan Lal, District Youth Coordinator, NYK, Port Blair welcomed and addressed the participants and dignitaries.
During the seven days camp the participants interacted with Trainer Mr Nimai Ch Mallick, MSW and Mr Bikash Ch Madhu, MA (Sociology) and various resource persons posing questions on adolescent issues and different changes, career guidance, HIV/AIDS, Health and moral life. Besides they had many indoor games and outdoor activities including field visit and adventurous journey during field tour.
The camp concluded on Monday. Mr Ram Krishna Biswas, Pradhan of Neil Island, In charge of GSSS, Neil Island, Parents and Mr Kundan Lal, District Youth Coordinator, NYK, Port Blair distributed certificates to the participants. Mr Kundan Lal proposed the vote of thanks.

DIET trainees clean Corbyn’s Cove, Chidiyatapu
Port Blair, March 30: Dr.S.Radhakrishnan District Institute of Education & Training (DIET) organized a study tour for D.El.Ed.(I & II year) Trainees on to Carbyn’s Cove, Chidiya Tapu and Biological Park, Chidiya Tapu. The tour was flagged off by the Principal, DIET. The trainees participated in the cleanliness drive at Carbyn’s Cove and Chidiya Tapu under the banner of Swacha Bharat Abhiyan.
The trainees of DIET along with the faculty removed plastic bags, bottles and other waste from the beach. The Trainees conveyed the message of 4 Rs- Recycle, Reuse, Reduce and Rethink to the visitors on the spot. They also visited Chidiya Tapu Biological Park. The Forest Department presented a slide show pertaining to the species of birds of A & N Islands.
