Finally: The Good News Chartered flight on Kolkata-Port Blair route to start on Feb 19

Port Blair, Feb 14: Count down has begun for the launch of much awaited chartered flight on Kolkata-Port Blair sector on 19th February, 2016.
Under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Lt. Governor of A & N Islands, Lt. Gen. A.K. Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd.) and the concerted follow up by the Civil Aviation department of A & N Administration under the close monitoring by the Chief Secretary, Shri. Anand Prakash and the Secretary (Civil Aviation), Shri N.K. Sharma with the support of DGCA, the chartered flight services on Kolkata-Port Blair sector is going to become a reality from 19th February, 2016, fulfilling the long cherished dream of the Islanders belonging to or having links with West Bengal and nearby States. This will be an added feather on the hat of the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of A & N Islands and another greatest achieving this year after the introduction of night flights to Port Blair by Go Air w.e.f 21.01.2016. Besides, the A&N Administration is already operating chartered flights on Chennai-Port Blair sector on every Wednesdays and alternate Saturdays and between Port Blair and Car Nicobar on every Thursdays. Similarly, a flight service is also being operated between Vishakapatnam and Port Blair on every Monday and Thursday by Air India, which has immensely benefited the Islanders by way of providing affordable air connectivity on these routes.
As confirmed by Air India, after having the matter been vigorously followed up with the Corporate Head office of Air India at New Delhi and the DGCA by the Secretary, Civil Aviation, A & N Administration Shri. N.K. Sharma and after requisite clearances, the Air India will operate weekly one charter flight on every Friday between Kolkata and Port Blair with 144 seater Airbus A-320 aircraft w.e.f 19.02.2016. This will be a night flight, which will depart from Kolkata at 09.00 PM and reach Port Blair at 11.00 PM. On its return flight the aircraft will depart from Port Blair at 11.45 PM to reach Kolkata at 01.45 AM. It may be recalled that the Hon’ble Lt. Governor had announced the commencement of Kolkata-Port Blair chartered flight by February 2016 in his Republic Day address to the Islanders on 26th January, 2016. The modalities for ticketing etc for this chartered flight will be informed shortly.
