Port Blair, Feb 05: Democracy is of the people, by the people, for the people but in Diglipur, it seems that the democracy is defined as of the politicians, by the politicians and for the politicians. At present some politicians are bell bent to organize Diglipur Vikas Mela just before board exam, when other organizations and public are against it.
Every year DVM is organized during the January month. This year the Mela is planning from Feb 15-20, just before Class X and Class XII board exams.
The DEO has been made in charge for the entertainment programmes for the mela. As per sources in the mela meeting, which was held at administrative building, the DEO was asked to prepare 3-4 entertainment programmes for the said mela with the help of students of Government and Private schools.
The DEO reportedly has now asked all the surrounding 18 schools including private schools to prepare 2-4 programmes for the said mela.
Total 53 dance and singing programmes were planned for the mela. The students are now instead of studying preparing for themselves for the DVM.
Today about 250 students and parents have reportedly sent a memorandum to the Lt. Governor to stop or to postpone the DVM till the exams and change the venue.
The Asst. Director sports recently issued a letter to DEO North Andaman on 3rd Mar,2015 wherein he informed that “Vivekananda stadium must not be used for any other purpose such as Vikas mela.” But still instead of that the ground is being used for the said purpose.
