Port Blair, Jan.27: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services has been organizing various training programmes in association with ATMA. In this connection, a six-week long ‘Farm School on Poultry’ was started in the field of Smti. Manjunath Toppo at Ramnagar village. During the inaugural function held on 21st January, 2016 at Ramnagar Gram Panchayat, the chief guest Shri. Subodh Mondal, Zilla Parishad member, Kalighat addressed the participants and asked them to avail all benefits being provided by the Department to start small poultry units and contribute to make the Adarsh Gram scheme a success Dr. S.B. Palve, SVO, Veterinary Dispensary, Kalighat, who is conducting the programme, explained in detail about the activities to be taken up during the six-weeks. Smti. Sreedevi, Assistant Director, Agriculture Department, Diglipur spoke about the role of ATMA in Agriculture and allied fields for uplifting the economic status of the farmers. Smti. Phulmani, Up-pradhan, Ramnagar panchayat, Dr. Dulal Biswas, SVO, Veterinary Hospital, Diglipur and Dr. Sivarani, SVO, LFC, Sitanagar also spoke on the occasion.
In an earlier instance, a demonstration was conducted on 12th January on the topic of building Goat sheds in rural areas in the field of Shri. Jigit Rekh, Bambooflat. Dr. R.K.Singh, SVO, Veterinary Hospital, Wimberlygunj conducted the programme while Miss. Navogim, BTA (ATMA), South Andamans, coordinated. Similarly, a training on scientific rearing of backyard poultry was conducted at Rangachang by Dr. Baljit Kaur, SVO, Rangachang on 20-21st January which was inaugurated by the Pradhan. The training was attended by 40 women farmers of nearby villages.
