Port Blair, Dec 17: As the President of the General Body of Science Centre, the Lt. Governor had issued directions to improve the facilities of Science Centre to increase the number of visitors and augment the centre’s revenue in the month of March 2015. Accordingly the Science Centre took various actions to improve the quality of exhibits and added a number of new programmes which has resulted in improving the visitors percentage by 88% & enhanced revenue generation by 90%.
To promote innovation in Science by the budding talents of these islands, an Innovation Hub has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 1.8 crore fully funded by Govt. of India which shall be implemented through the National council of Science Museums, Kolkata.
Science Centre also plans to add Time Machine (Simulator) to its facilities which will increase visitors’ footfalls. A decision has also been taken to establish a District Level Science Centre at Mayabunder to benefit the rural populace on priority. The project cost will be Rs 6 Crore of which 90% shall be funded by Govt. of India. The National Council of Science Museums, Kolkata has been entrusted with the task of developing Science Centre at Mayabunder.
