Port Blair, May 02: Season’s first rainfall brought dozens of problems for Port Blairians. Yesterday a huge branch of a giant tree fell on the Bargat Line road and today another tree fell and blocked the busy Gandhi Park Road. The tree was later cut and removed from the road.
Worst hit was a family living in Tsunami Shelter of Brookshabad area. Because of heavy rain there was land sliding infront of a tsunami permanent shelter, which now threats the foundation the permanent shelter.
“The heavy rain has proved how carelessly the retaining walls of tsunami permanent shelters have been constructed. Actually they should have constructed a solid RCC retaining wall but instead they erected retaining wall using Hollow Blocks, which gave up to heavy pressure of water and mud,” resident of a tsunami permanent shelter told Andaman Sheekha.
