Port Blair, Dec 7: On the occasion of Nirvana Diwas of Dr B R Ambedkar on Dec 6, 2015, a programme on the theme ‘Dr B R Ambedkar tatha Samajik Samrasta ‘was organised by the ABVP Port Blair Unit in the seminar hall of JNRM. The programme began with the traditional lighting of lamp by Smt Rupa Ray, Smt Ratna Kannan, Dr R N Rath, Dr N Francis Xavier and Mr Aashis Mondal.
Speaking on the occasion, Smt Rupa Ray and Smt Ratna Kannan said that Dr B R Ambedkar was a great student, a teacher, a social reformer and a great patriot and as students we can very much be benefited by reading Babasahab Ambedkar and his contributions to our country.
In his address, Dr RN Rath, former Principal of MGGC, Mayabunder spoke about the contributions of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar for social harmony and elaborated the essence of our constitution including the concepts of social harmony equity, equality fraternity and liberty in the preamble of our constitution, without which the country could not have, moved on the path of harmonised national development.
Dr.Anjani Kumar Srivastavab Dr,RGS.Bhagel and Mr K.Venkatesan faculty members JNRM spoke on the samajik samrasta and Abedkar’s contribution. Depankar Dey a student of 2nd year BA Political Science JNRM spoke on the provisions in our constitution for social development and upliftment.
The programme was attended by the faculty members and students from JNRM, DBRAIT and ANCOL. Mr Durgvijay Singh Deep, Deputy Director, All India Radio Port Blair and Dr Kanwar Chanderdeep Singh, President ABVP Port Blair Nagar also graced the programme.
Dr.Kandimuthu, NEC Member and Vibhag Pramukh said ABVP believes that though we have lot of problems if we collectively share the responsibility many of the social problems can be solved and this programme is for motivating and inculcating these social responsibility among the youths and student community ABVP has been observing 6th Dec. as Samajik Samrasta Diwas every year since 1980.And at the end Proposing vote of thanks Dr.KandiImuthu said as Babasahab wanted the students must be oriented with their social and national responsibilities from the students life itself and here for this our education and educational institution have a major role and responsibility to make good citizens for society and country.
