Port Blair, Nov 17: As part of the campaign against “ill-effects of Drug Abuse & Alcoholism”, the Directorate of Social Welfare organized awareness programmes at Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Havelock and Panchayat Bhawan, Havelock on Monday.
Mr B. Saigal, Dy.SP (Havelock) elaborated on the social economic scenario of drugs, tobacco and alcohol impacted families and suggested various remedial and preventive measures to be adopted for saving such families from this social evils. Dr. P. K. Palit, CMO, PHC Havelock has focused on its impacts on the health as well as in the family/society. Mr M. Ballappa Rao, Up-Pradhan, Govind Nagar Panchayat was also present on the occasion. The programme ended with an interactive sessions and discussions with the students and general public.
Earlier, Mr AK Biswas, Probation Officer of the Directorate welcomed the gathering of more than 500 persons including school students in both the places.
The Department will continue such programme on regular basis in all other Islands at regular intervals.
