Port Blair, Nov 5: A seminar to explore the possibilities of converting plastic waste in fuel energy was conducted in the conference hall of Municipal Council on Wednesday. The Director, CSIR- Indian Institute Of Petroleum, Dehradun, Mr M O Garg informed that technology for installing the first unit to generate energy from plastic waste is being developed and will be made available within a year.
The technology will not only solve the issues of dumped plastic wastes but will give employment to communities as well as money value of plastic wastes. The seminar was attended by Chairperson, Municipal Council, Chairperson Public Health & Sanitation Committee, Secretary, Municipal Council, Engineers and officials of the sanitary wing of the Council. The Chairperson, Municipal Council expressed willingness to adopt the technology for making Port Blair a clean and green city and requested Mr Garg for extending support in this endeavour
