Port Blair, Aug 24: Scuffle and verbal spat at the Pradesh Congress Committee office of Andaman and Nicobar Islands marked ticket distribution for forthcoming Municipal elections.
According to reports available here soon after declaration of names of the candidates for nearly 20 wards of Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) elections yesterday, a good number of discontent congress workers started gathering at Congress Office of Port Blair to seek an explanation in this regard.
Majority of these discontent people were headed by those who could not get a ticket this time.
According to reports nearly three different groups expressed their discontent and alleged that the Party took unilateral decision against the interest of deserving party workers.
As per insider soon the matter took the shape of verbal spat and scuffle.
Considering the seriousness of the issue a team of Andaman and Nicobar police, headed by Mr. Mohd. Aslam, Dy S P South Andaman reached the spot to control the situation with Quick Response Team and armed police jawans.
“We have asked them to give a written complaint. If they lodge a complaint we will take necessary action,” a senior officer of A & N Police told Andaman Sheekha.
However, senior Congress leaders, on the condition of anonymity have defended PCC President Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma saying that all the candidates were selected after collective decision of all the members of Pradesh Selection Committee and “there is no dispute inside party”.
