Port Blair, Aug 19: The Defence Wives Welfare Association (DWWA) in association with Medical Division, Andaman & Nicobar Command and Station Health Organisation (Port Blair) organised a Healthy Baby Competition for children of serving defence personnel below two years of age at NWWA Kendra, Vijay Baugh on Wednesday. Smt Madhu Siwach, Vice President DWWA was the chief guest on the occasion.
The keynote address was delivered by Lt Col R Nandy, Officer Commanding Station Health Organisation which was followed by a presentation by Surgeon Lt Cdr Anupama Sutar, Gynaecologist, INHS Dhanvantari on “Breast Feeding-Bonding with the Newborn” for the mothers accompanying the infants. Speakers emphasised on the importance of exclusive breast feeding upto six months of age and gradual introduction of supplementary foods thereafter.
The Healthy Baby Competition was judged in three age groups, infants upto six months, infants from six months to one year and toddlers from one year to two years. An immunisation booth for BCG, DPT, oral Polio, oral Pentavalent, Oral Measles and Vitamin E drops was also set up on the occasion and the children were immunized as per routine immunization programme. The competition received an overwhelming response and a total of 57 ladies and 70 Children attended the event.
