Port Blair, July 12: The first sub-committee of Parliamentary Committee on Official Language, represented by its convener, Shri Satyavirat Chaturvedi, Hon’ble Member Rajya Sabha and member, Smt Santosh Ahlawat, Hon’ble Member Lok Sabha and Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, Secretary, Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs paid a visit to HQ ANC on July 11, as part of nationwide drive to give impetus to usage of Hindi as the Official Language. They were accompanied by officials of Parliament Secretariat and representatives of Ministry of Defence and Headquarters of Integrated Defence Staff, New Delhi.
The delegation interacted with Vice Admiral P K Chatterjee, PVSM, AVSM, NM, Commander in Chief of Andaman and Nicobar Command and other officers and functionaries of various departments at HQ ANC. The delegation was briefed at HQ ANC on various activities involving usage of Hindi. Correspondence, orders, instructions and manuals in Hindi were made available for perusal of members of the Delegation. They inspected the progress of usage of Hindi in the units of Army, Navy and Air Force.
The six member Parliamentary Sub Committee paid their homage in the National Heritage Memorial in Cellular Jail and also visited Ross Island where they witnessed the light and sound show. The delegation will depart for Kolkata on the morning of 13 Jul 15.
