Port Blair, May 12: The Directorate of Social Welfare invites nominations from eligible children residing in these Islands of or above the age of 9 years and not exceeding 16 years (as on 31st July of respective year) for the “National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement” which has been instituted by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, New Delhi to be given to children with exceptional abilities and outstanding achievements in the field of innovation in any field including design, scholastic achievements (eg first position in mathematics in two successive years) on a national level, sports, arts, culture, social service and music any other field which deserve recognition as per the decision of the Central Selection Committee.
The achievement should be recognized, sponsored by an independent/ authority in the concerned field. The achievement should be carried out over a period of time. There should be some indication that the child can continue with the activity for some time.
There will be 36 National Awards (equivalent to the number of States/UTs in the country). The award consists of one gold medal (20 gm), a cash prize of Rs 20,000/-, book vouchers of Rs 10,000/- and a citation and 35 silver medals (50 gm each), cash prize of Rs 10,000/- each, book vouchers of Rs 3,000/-, a certificate and a citation. However, not more than two candidates shall be awarded from one State/ UT under the scheme.
The award will be announced on 14th November, 2015 and shall be given in New Delhi on a convenient date. The Award will be received personally by the child. The Ministry of Women and Child Development will pay the awardee and his/her escort expenditure involved in traveling and daily allowances as per rules.
The eligible children while submitting their nominations may attach attested copy of birth certificate, 2 passport size recent photographs (duly attested), press clippings/ certificates and other supporting documents, as proof of achievements.
The Proforma for submission of nominations can be collected from the Directorate of Social Welfare at Goal Ghar from Room No 205. The last date for submission of nomination is 01/06/2015.
