Port Blair, May 11: A meeting cum-awareness programme for private Truck/Van drivers was held at the conference hall of PS Aberdeen by the traffic Police on the 09.05.2015. In the meeting around 74 persons including drivers/owners and the union representatives was present.
During the meeting Dy.SP(Traffic) Mr. M. Umar emphasized on the possible dangers on the road while carrying protruding materials like road/poles etc. by visual media presentation.
They were also apprised about the Notification of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways Govt. of India issued in pursuance to the directions of the Supreme Court in the matter of PIL filed by the save LIFE Foundation which in effects has nullified the provision from sub section (8) of rule 93 of CMVR, 1989 that allowed protrusion up to one metre beyond the rear most point of the Motor vehicle. Dy.SP(traffic) also urged all the transporters to comply with the direction of Supreme Court strictly and not to carry protruding rods/poles in their vehicles to avoid prosecution.
Apart from the above they were also made aware of the Traffic Rules & Regulations and ill effects of drunken driving over, speeding, overloading, and obstructive parking and education on the measures to reduce road accidents.
