Port Blair, May 06: On 29 Apr 15 Clearance Diving Unit (CDU) of the Naval Component of Andaman & Nicobar Command provided vital assistance to a civilian diver, Mrs Anoobha Sehgal, by way of treating her for decompression sickness.
Mrs. Sehgal arrived at CDU on 01 May 15 with complaints of chest engorgement and occasional pain in joints. The patient was administered Oxygenated Recompression Therapy for about two hours in the Recompression Chamber at CDU. The therapy was conducted under the supervision of Lt Cdr Gautam Khajuria, Officer-in-Charge, CDU. Mrs. Anoobha Sehgal on completion of the therapy was re-examined and was reported to be relieved.
The specialised facility, required for the treatment of diving related accidents, is available only with Naval Diving Unit at these Islands and has been utilised on numerous occasions for treating decompression sickness (DCS), a condition arising from dissolved gases accumulating inside the body in the form of bubbles on sudden depressurisation.
