Port Blair, May 01: Taking cognizance of a series of news items published in a weekly news paper regarding various decisions taken by the PBMC, the Council in its meeting held on 29/04/2015, unanimously adopted a resolution stating that Council has taken note of the motivated campaign started by the news paper making unsubstantiated allegations against the Council and its officers.
The news paper has particularly mentioned the procurement of Leyland vehicles, shuttering materials and engagement of sanitary workers. Council has examined this matter.
All these decisions were taken by the Council through specific Resolutions, upon in depth analysis of the requirements and in the best interest of the Council. The reports in the news paper are distorted and malicious.
The news paper has conspired to obtain Council documents unauthorizly and published them in a distorted manner. The Council further stated that this campaign has been started by vested interests in view of the drive against unauthorized constructions by such elements. Council has, therefore, resolved that Administration should initiate legal action against the publication for defamation of the Council and its officers.
At the meeting, many members stated that the newspaper is indulging in a malicious campaign against its officers. Members reiterated that policy decisions in the form of Resolutions are adopted in the meetings of the Sub-committees and the Council.
The policy decisions taken by the Council are implemented by the Officers. The news paper has not only maligned the reputation of the Secretary, PBMC but also the entire Council, members held.
