Port Blair, April 21: With summer at its peak, the Lt Governor has been monitoring the water situation on a daily basis. He had ordered APWD to strictly monitor the water levels in various reservoirs across the Islands and report to him. He had directed wherever the situation is critical, alternative arrangements through tankers be made so that minimum inconvenience is caused to the residents of these Islands.
The Lt. Governor had held a high level meeting with the Chief Secretary and the APWD officers sometime back and issued directions that a Control Room be set up in APWD to monitor the water levels at various reservoirs across the Islands and keep a check on areas where water situation is acute. Accordingly, the CE, APWD, has set up a monitoring mechanism, with a State Control Room, to deal with the situation. A daily report is being generated and submitted to the Lt. Governor.
