Port Blair, Mar 26: Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, A&N State Social Welfare Board, Port Blair conducted an Awareness Programme in Havelock Jetty No. 1, S/Andaman on 26.03.2015 to make the people aware of the many problems of the society. The programme was organized in collaboration with Mahila Mandal, Havelock Jetty No.1.A large no. of women from Gobind Nagar, Havelock attended the camp.
Smt. Anjana Baroi, President, Mahila Mandal, Havelock , Jetty No. 1 welcomed the Chairperson and other officers who had come to attend the camp. Shri Ranjan Sammaddar, Pradhan and Smt. Sagarika Majhi Up Pradhan of Gobind Nagar, Havelock were also present in the camp.Smt. Ratna Kannan in her speech highlighted the social evils like rape, molestation, prostitution which have creeped into the Andaman Society and slowly destroying the families. She said that there are many laws to protect women but these laws should be made to use for genuine reasons . The laws should not be distorted for selfish desires. She added that only one person can not eradicate the problems of alchohol from the society. All the women should stand united and fight the menace of alchohol being sold illegally. She advised the women to open their Bank accounts where they can save a small amount monthly which would benefit them in the long run. She talked about the benefits of cleanliness and requested all to keep their surroundings clean for the benefit of the society. The doctor from the Veterinary Department talked about the benefits of Poultry farming and advised the women to take the benefit of Poultry Farming . Shri Ranjan Sammaddar, Pradhan, Gobind Nagar assured full support to the Mahila Mandal and assured that he will help them in all possible ways.
Smt. Sagarika Majhi, Up Pradhan, lauded the efforts of the Chairperson and said that creating such awareness will be beneficial for the society at large. She requested the Chairperson to continue this programme in different villages of Havelock.
