Port Blair, Feb 04: The National Cooperative Union of India, Cooperative Education Field Project, (Ministry of Agriculture & Cooperation), A & N Island Unit has organized a Valedictory function for four days duration Basic Training Course on Handicraft with Cane & Bamboo today at Panchayat Hall, Garacharma-II. Shri Anand Amrit Raj, Zilla Parishad Upadaksh was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address he praised the rural women folk who have come out of their houses to support their family members financially and make themselves dependent.
Earlier Shri Surendranath Singh, Project Officer, National Cooperative Union of India, Coop. Education Field Project, A & N Island Unit has welcomed the gathering and briefed about the importance of training course. He urged the candidates not to let their knowledge go waste which they got from this training rather they must apply the knowledge in practical field and earn money and become self dependent. Shri Ravinder Rao, Managing Director, A & N State Cooperative Bank Ltd speaking on the occasion said there is lot of opportunities for SHG members for income generation based on handicraft. He said that A & N State Coop. Bank is always ready to assist the Self Help Group to establish their self employment unit.

Shri L.B. Singh, Subject matter specialist(Horticulture), Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) highlighted on the importance of handicraft based on cane & bamboo. Shri K. Kumaravel, Officer Incharge, Handicraft department, Govt. of India, Port Blair in his address said that this type of training is very much useful which may create income opportunities to women members of SHGs.
Shri Rajesh Pal, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Garacharma-II also spoke on the occasion. The chief guest gave away certificates to 31 rural women who were imparted basic training on handicraft with cane & bamboo. The programme was coordinated by Smti Sunila Kumari, Lady Mobiliser, NCUI, Port Blair.
