Port Blair, December 25: To commemorate the first flag hoisting by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in the year 1943 in Port Blair, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands will hoist the National Flag at the Memorial of 30th December, Netaji Stadium on 30th December 2014 at 8.30 am followed by Guard of Honour.
Earlier, Chairperson, PBMC shall pay tribute at the Netaji Statue, 1857 Memorial and Battle of Aberdeen Memorial between 8.10 & 8.20 am. Chief Secretary, A&N Administration will lay wreath at the Martyrs’ Column, Cellular Jail at 8.20 am on 30th December, 2014.
On this day in the year 1943, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisted the National Flag for the first time at the Gymkhana Ground (present Netaji Stadium). His historic visit to the Andamans as the head of Provisional Government of Azad Hind during the Japanese occupation made a symbolic fulfillment of his promise that INA would stand on the Indian soil by the end of 1943. All are requested to attend the function.
