Port Blair, Dec 16: On credible information Police party from PS Bambooflat and OP Wimberlygunj comprising of SI Mohd. Elias , SHO PS Bambooflat, SI Deepak Mukherjee, I/c OP Wimberlygunj, HC/2333 P. Abdul Salam, PC/1193 P.H Naushad, PC/1905 A.K Roy & HG/Majeed under the supervision of ShriMohd. Aslam, SDPO (Bambooflat) intercepted Bolero pick-up van bearing registration No. AN01 F-8588 at Padauk Bagicha and found 50 nos. padauk pieces being carried in the van.
The driver of the vehicle was unable to produce any document with respect to purchase/transportation of wooden pieces. Forest Officials were called to the spot who identified the wooden pieces to be padauk. 50 nos. padauk pieces along with Bolero Pick-up van were seized under relevant sections of Indian Forest Act, 1927.
The seized articles & driver P. Moideen Kutty R/o Model Village Wimberlygunj have been handed over to Range Officer, Mannarghat for further legal action.
