Port Blair, Nov.21:Naval Diving Unit of HQ ANC gave critical life support to a lady diver, Ayeshah Dadachanji, age 32 yrs, on 19 Nov 14. The lady, a professional diver diving with Dive India centre at Havelock, developed type II decompression sickness. The patient reported at GB pant hospital, where she was referred to INHS Dhanvantari She was sent tn Naval Diving Unit and was treated in the recompression chamber for three hours. The recompression therapy was supervised by Lt Cdr Ashish Mittal.
The specialized facility required for treatment of diving related accidents, is available only with the Naval Diving Unit of Indian Navy at Port Blair and the same has been put to use at least seven times in the last one year. As late as two days back, a foreign national was treated in the same facility.
Compassionate efforts by the Naval Divers have resulted saving life of number of tourists. Wherever human lives are at stake, the Naval Divers have always risen to the occasion by carrying out rescue and relief operation all around the Islands
