Barun Sarkar, a carpenter by profession, suffered a serious injury in his spinal cord while lifting a heavy nearly ten months back.
Since then he was bedridden for several months, unable to move his lower part of his body. Lone bread winner of his family, Barun Sarkar had to leave his job and become dependent on his wife, who is a nursing mother and hence can’t go out for work.
Ultimately Barun had to take shelter in his Mother-in-Law’s house and remain dependent on the old woman for every small and big needs.
Since last nearly one year Barun is suffering unbearable pain. When slowly his health condition improved and he was able to move around with the help of others, he went to a private hospital in Chennai where he was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Prolapse L4-L5, L5-S1. “The patient now requires to undergo Posterior Spinal Decompression with instrumented fusion + TLIF, at the earlier, as delay might lead to serious complications including the patient becoming cripple,” the medical report given by the private hospital mentioned.
The situation is becoming worse for Barun every day. Today he can’t walk for more than 500 mtrs, without taking rest. He has to sit anywhere on the road for breaks to reach hospital or other places. As warned by hospital authority he has now developed complication in urination, and according to doctors the condition will further worsen if operation is not carried out immediately.
Private hospitals has given an estimate of Rs. 2,32,000 provided no unforeseen complications arise. From Raj Niwas Barun has been assured of Rs. 1,00,000 but in last more than 10 months Barun was unable to save any amount for his operation.
His wife has been running pillar to post to get some financial support but till now the family did not get any help.
The patient has waited for more than 10 months for his operation and now his body has developed further complications. The Lt. Governor has done his part by sanctioning Rs. 1,00,000 for him now it is on the Islanders to come forward and donate generously for the patient so that he becomes fit again.
