Port Blair, Apr 03: A multi-specialty screening and follow up medical camp was organised by the Andaman and Nicobar Command for the population of southern group of Islands. The medical camp was held at Carnicobar (BJR Hospital) and Campbell Bay (Primary Health Center) on 28 and 29 Mar 12 respectively.
The medical camp at BJR Hospital Car Nicobar was inaugurated by the Station Commander Carnic, Group Captain Rohit Mahajan VM. The camp at Primary Health Center, Campbell Bay was jointly inaugurated by Commander Natrajan, Officer-in-Charge 3 U Det and Commandant RKPS Shisodia, District Commander DHQ – 10 Coast Guard, Nicobar Islands. Command Medical Officer, Surgeon Captain KM Adhikari expressed his desire in frequent conduct of such medical camps which will benefit the populace of the Islands. He also congratulated the medical team for their successful endeavor.
The response of the public to the camp was overwhelming and immensely gratifying. 551 patients attended the medical camp and 185 ultrasound examinations were done collectively at both the places which were especially beneficial to the pregnant ladies. Sixty five children benefited from child care clinic. Ward rounds and ultrasound scanning was also carried out for pediatric in-patients and other admitted in the ward were attended by the visiting specialists.
The Andaman and Nicobar Command has been carrying out such medical and preventive health camps frequently as a part of the Community Outreach Programme. Camps held in the past include locations as diverse as Neil Island, Car Nicobar, Long Island, Hutbay, Diglipur and Campbell Bay. INHS Dhanvantari, the medical team of the ANC has always been at the forefront of all the health related activities of the Command.
The Directorate of Health Services contributed medicines and necessary assistance for conduct of the medical camps. PHC Team headed by Dr BG Lal, Medical Superintendent at BJR Hospital and Dr Arun at PHC Campbell Bay were part of the medical camps and extended whole hearted support for conduct of the camp.
