Port Blair, Oct 17: In continuation of fight against illegal activities, a Police team comprising of ASI Rakesh Singh, Head Constable S. Thimmi Raj, Suden Dey, Ibrahim Ali, Ajeesh Kumar, Constable Mohd. Rafi and Milton Baul of Special Branch (CID) were on checking duty of new comers at Haddo Wharf passenger hall on arrival of M. V. Swaraj Dweep Ship from Kolkata to Port Blair and they recovered 139 strips containing 1372 tablets of Clonazepam, Alprazolam and Spasmo from the possession of two persons namely Sona Sarkar S/o Late Chander Mohan Sarkar (53) and Biswajeet Sarkar S/o Shri Sona Sarkar (29) both R/o Mazar Pahar on 15/10/2014 evening. On questioning, the accused failed to produce any bill or Doctor’s prescription to the Police and disclosed that they were consuming the said tablets for intoxication. The above tablets come under the purview of NDPS Act, hence all the tablets were seized on the spot under the cover of seizure memo.
Accused Sona Sarkar and Biswajeet Sarkar were arrested U/s 21(a)/22(a) of NDPS Act 1985 on 16/10/2014 at 1240 hrs. and a case was registered against them at PS CCS. Further investigation of the case is in progress.
