Port Blair, Sept 15: The Institution of Engineers (India), A & N State Centre celebrated the 47th Engineers’ Day in a befitting manner in the Multipurpose Hall of Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works, Phoenix Bay, Port Blair on 15th September 2014. Smti Rina Ray, IAS, Principal Secretary, A & N Administration was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Principal Secretary, inaugurated the celebration by lightening the traditional lamp, which was followed by the patriotic song from the students of DBRAIT.
Er. Bimal Sinha, Chairman, A & N State Centre welcomed the Chief Guest and the Engineers fraternity of these islands and also introduced the theme “Making Indian Engineering World-Class” proposed by the Institution of Engineers (India) for celebration of Engineers Day 2014. This was followed by Annual Report by the Honorary Secretary Er. M. Meyyanathan. The inaugural session ended with the vote of thanks proposed by the Lt.Col. J.S. Thind, Senior Staff Officer,A & N Zone, Port Blair.
The Principal Secretary (Finance/IT) in her address appreciated and welcomed the theme of the year “Making Indian Engineering World-Class” evolved by the Institution of Engineers (India) for celebration of Engineers Day 2014. She lauded the efforts made by the Engineering community working in A&N Islands. She stated that that despite the geographical challenges, the Engineers have contributed a lot and have taken the development activities to the remotest part of these islands. The quality of construction and design by the engineers of these islands is of high class, she added. She congratulated everybody on the occasion of 47th Engineers’ day.
Smti Rina Ray, IAS, Principal Secretary presented the Best Engineer Award 2014 to the Engineers who have tirelessly worked for development of these islands. The Best Engineer Award in Electronics & Communication Engineering was given to Er. Gunavanti Parmar, HOD ECE, of DBRAIT, the Best Engineer Award in Electrical Engineering was given to Er. B. Hari, Junior Engineer, Workshop Division, APWD, the Best Engineer Award in Electrical & Electronics Engineering was given to Er. Smti Sucharitha Dass, Junior Engineer of APWD, the Best Engineer in Computer Science & Engineering was given to Er. Sukhvinder Singh, Lecturer of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Port Blair and the Best Engineer Award in Mechnical Engineering was given to Er. Thirukumar Junior Engineer attached to the Deputy Chief Engineer (Mech), ALHW. Smti Rina Ray, IAS, Principal Secretary, A & N Administration congratulated the awardees.
The Technical session followed the Inaugural Session of the Engineers Day celebration. Three Eminent Engineers presented papers on the theme of Engineers Day 2014. The key speakers were Lt. Col. Jasbir Singh Thind, A & N Zone, Er. Sukhvinder Singh, Lecturer of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Port Blair and Er. Arun Kumar, Executive Engineer, APWD. The Technical session was chaired by Er. Shankar Rao, Lecturer (Selection Grade) (Electrical) of DBRAIT.
In the evening session, there were cultural programs by the wards of Engineers and the school/college children and games shows for the Engineers and their families. The Engineers Day celebration culminated with the Anniversary Contributory Dinner.
