Port Blair, Sept 10: The Chairperson, Port Blair Municipal Council, Shri K Ganeshan, laid the foundation stones for construction of Sanitary Office and Additional Block of Ratri Niwas at Haddo, Ward no. 2 on 10-09-2014. The Secretary, PBMC, Shri SP Singh, Ward Councilor, Shri B Hema Rao and other officials of the Council were present on the occasion.
The Sanitary Office at Haddo will be constructed at an estimated expenditure of Rs 13, 20, 200/-, while the construction of the Additional Block of Ratri Niwas, Haddo will be executed at an expenditure of Rs 23,91,053/-.
Considering lack of Sanitary Site Offices, the PBMC decided to construct the facility in all the 18 Wards of the city. As part of the initiative, foundation stone for the second Sanitary Office was laid today after the one at Buniyadabad, Ward no. 3, said the PBMC Chairperson.
Similarly, the Additional Block for the Ratri Niwas at Haddo was proposed by the Councilor of the area to cater to the accommodation needs of people, particularly those from the lower sections of the society. The Additional Block will augment the accommodation facility and benefit a large number of citizens, said Mr K Ganeshan.
Reiterating his commitment towards the welfare of the PBMC workforce, Shri Ganeshan said that procedures have been initiated for regularization of services of 350 Daily Rated workers of the Council. Similarly, the hike of 25% of salary of DRMs, who have rendered 8 to 15 years of continuous service in the Council in various categories, viz. Un-skilled, Semi-skilled, Skilled (A), Skilled (B) and Highly Skilled will be implemented soon, he said.
