Port Blair, Aug 24: Acting on a tip of information regarding transportation of elephant tusks from Kadamtala to Port Blair by 02 persons through STS Bus, yesterday a team of Special Branch CID consisting of SI Vishal Ram, HCs Sasi Kumar, Suden Dey, Thimmi Raj, D.V.Tiwari, Ibrahim Ali, Ajeesh Kumar, PCs P.Binoy and Soma Shekar Rao intercepted the STS Bus at 0915 hrs at Bathu Basti junction which was coming from Kadamtala and apprehended 02 suspected persons who disclosed their names & addresses as Bhagirath Biswas S/o Late Ananto Biswas (58) yrs R/o Bhakta Road, Kadamtala and Sashi Lohar S/o Shri. Etwa Lohar (22) yrs R/o Kadamtala No. 3.
From the apprehended 02 persons, 01 No. black colour air bag was recovered. On checking the air bag, 02 Nos. Elephant Tusks (weighing 1.240 Kg), 05 Nos. suspected Crocodile teeth and one jar containing suspected gall bladder of Crocodile were recovered.
On preliminary enquiry, they failed to produce any license/permit/declaration for possession/trading/transportation of elephant tusk and other items, as such all the above recovered items have been seized U/s 50/51 Wild Life Protection Act, 1972 after observing all codal formalities. Thereafter the 02 apprehended persons along with the seized articles were brought to PS CCS and handed over to the Range Officer, Garacharma Range for initiating further action.
