Port Blair, Aug. 04: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament of A&N Islands has raised a question No. 2450 before the Speaker of Lok Sabha during the parliament session in regard to diagnosis facilities in A&N islands for non-Communicable disease.
In reply Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the Minister of Health & Family Welfare, informed that the health facilities in A&N Islands are provided by the Govt. through a Network of Sub-Centers, Primary Health Centers, community Health centers, District Hospitals and G. B. Pant Hospital.
While facilities for diagnosing hyper tension are available even sub-centre level, blood sugar estimation and ECG facilities are available at PHC’s and high level institutions, facilities of CT scan, MRI, TMT, Holter etc. are available at G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair. However, for coronary angiogram the patents are referred to Health Institutions in mainland.
In reply to the question, regarding testing of non-communicable disease through the outsource health facilities, the Minister informed that A&N Administration has recently received suggestions for health care for diagnosis of NCD’s through outsourcing by Member of Parliament in the review District Planning Committee meeting of N&M Andaman District held on 17.06.2014 and 21.06.2014.
Further information that for prevention and control of cancer, diabetes etc. the Govt. of India has launched Nation Program for Iovascular diseases and stroke (NPCDCS) in 2010 to prevent and control NCD’s by generation of awareness, behavior of life styles, early changes, and early diagnosis of persons with high level risk factors and appropriate management and referral to higher facilities.
It’s further informed during 2013-14 and 2014-15 an amount of Rs. 5,00, 000/- and 22,00,000/- have been released to UT of A&N Islands. In addition in the year of 2013-14 Govt. has approved a scheme for enhancing the tertiary care cancer facilities in the country. Under this scheme (Tertiary Component of NPCDCS) Govt. will assist 50 tertiary care cancer centers in different part of country. The maximum assistant inclusive of state is Rs. 45 crores. The UT of A&N Islands can avail such financial assistance.
