Port Blair, July 16: In a shocking development today a Sister from a local church was denied medical attention at PHC Garacharma.
According to reports the Sister had fallen down from her Scooty infront of Karpagam Hotel this afternoon at around 12.40 pm and by 12.50 pm she was taken to PHC Garacharma by some people. The Sister had got some injuries on her feet and also she got severe hurt on right hand, which initially appeared to be fracture.
But after reaching the hospital they saw that three doctors of PHC Garacharma were attending another serious patient therefore Sister waited outside the Doctor’s room instead of disturbing the doctors.
Soon one of the doctors got free and came inside her chamber but when the Sister approached her, the doctor refused to see her saying it is already 12.30 pm and after 12.30 we don’t see patient. The patient was asked to come after 3.00 pm. The sister, who is polite by nature did not even argue and went back to church by auto and came back after 3.00pm.
But the question is that why Doctors can’t devote five minutes for a patient, who met with an accident and have already reached the hospital and is it ethical to ask accident patient to come after 2-3 hours?
However, the CMO of PHC Garacharma, Dr. Shipra Paul refuted the allegation and said that PHC Garacharma is the only hospital, in which Doctors remain preset from 8.00 am to 5.00 PM and for serious patients doctors remains available on call for 24 hours.
“This can’t be true. The sister should have come to me as I was present in the PHC till 3.00 PM, like every other day. May be the patient could not explain her problems properly to the Doctor,” Dr. Shipra Paul added. However, attenders of the patient say that the lady Doctor didn’t even give the Sister a chance to explain her problem.
