Port Blair, June 25: Dr. Jyotirmoy Roy Chowdhury , Associate Professor and Head of the Bengali Department , JNR Mahavidyalay, Port Blair , has been honored by receiving “Kalidas Roy Medal” given by “Sahitya Alpana” and “Mukhya Barta” of Durgapur, Burdwan , West Bengal, at ‘Sandhar Kulaay” , the residence of renowned Bengali poet Kabishekhar Kalidas Roy in the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary on last Sunday, the 22nd June , 2014 in Kolkata.
Mr. Kabiranjan and Mr. Kabikankan Roy, the two sons of the poet graced the occasion while noted educationist and litterateur Mr. Sukharanjan Mukhopadhyay and Dr. J. Roy chowdhury were special guests . In his speech Dr.Roy Chowdhury highlighted the speciality of the literary style of Kabishekhar Kalidas Roy and described him as a versatile genius .
He expressed his sorrow by saying the wrong evaluation made by the makers of history of Bengali literature who called Kabishekhar merely a poet fail to describe him properly though he was also a short story writer , good essayist and a perfect critic.
Dr. RoyChowdhurty remembered the close relationship between his deceased father late Dr. Amiya Krishna Roychowdhury and Kabishekhar himself as AmiyaKrishna not only edited the compiled edition of Kabishekhar but also was the ideal admirer of the poet. Kabishekhar too devoted his book of poems named “Gathanjali’ to the young poet Amiyakrishna . Other dignitaries also spoke on the occasion . At the beginning of the function editor of “Mukhya Barta” Mr. Narayan Majumder delivered his welcome speech . In the cultural function Mrs. Rubi Ghosal, Mrs. Alaktika Chakraborty, and Mrs. Snehalata Dutta presented songs while Mr. Goutam Karak and others recited poems.
A special number on Kabishekhar Kalidas Roy of Sahitya Alpana , a quarterly literary magazine from Durgapur and a collection of poems titled “Kobita Sinduk “ edited by Mr. Rajib Ghanti were open along with some other three new books written by different writers. The entire program was organized by Mr. Ghanti successfully as he undertook the responsibility to gather poets and writers from different places of the district of Burdwan, the native land of Kabishekhar .
