Port Blair, June 15: The ANC Badminton Open Championship 2014-15 was held from 09-13 Jun 14 at Port Blair. The Championship was conducted by the Coast Guard Region (A&N) in four categories viz, Men’s Single, Men’s Double, Women Single and Mixed Doubles.
The championship was open to all service personnel of A&N Command. A total of 59 participants took part in the event which was hosted at the Coast Guard Indoor Sports Complex (CGISC), Haddo. The finals of the Championship were conducted on 13 Jun 14.
Inspector General K Natarajan, PTM, TM, COMCG (A&N) was the Chief Guest for the event. The event was also attended by the senior Officers and Service Personnel and their families from all the components of the unified A&N Command.
Lt Kumavat of INS Utkrosh won the Men’s Single category. Sgt A Sarkar of 15 FBSU & Cpl G Chauhan of 153 Sqdn Air Force took away the Men’s Double category title. In the Women’s category Asst Comdt Sweta Rana of RHQ (A&N) was winner. Lt P Peyyalla of INS Utkrosh and Lt S Savita of BVY have won the mixed Double category.
Speaking on the occasion IG K Natarajan, PTM, TM congratulated all the winners of the championship and requested for more participants in coming year. The Flag Officer emphasized sports facility developed for the purpose need to be utilized by all to the fullest extent to keep physically fit and to develop camaraderie amongst the service personnel.
