Port Blair, June 10: Smt Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, A&N State Social Welfare Board, Port Blair called on the Lt Governor of A&N Islands to discuss various issues relating to the problems of A&N Islands. One of the major problems discussed was the high incidence of suicides and suicidal tendencies prevalent amongst the Islanders owing to various socio-economic reasons.
The Lt Governor voiced his concern over the rising trend of suicides in the Islands and suggested that the Social Welfare Board, alongwith NGOs, should work on creating awareness in the Society.
The Chairperson assured the LG that the Social Welfare Board would leave no stone unturned to tackle the problem of suicides and organize awareness generation camps for counselling throughout the Islands. The Lt Governor assured the Chairperson that the Administration would extend all support and cooperation in this noble task.
