Port Blair, June 04: Andaman and Nicobar Administration is all set to organize State Level Communication Exercise ‘Suraksha Goonj 14’ tomorrow.
“The crucial exercise will be conducted in coordination with all stakeholders and line departments to check all Disaster Management emergency communication systems and networking from the State Control Room to 06 Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) along with other Control Rooms of Various Departments up till last mile connectivity and response mechanism to find out its efficacy towards disaster preparedness in Andaman and Nicobar Islands,” Mr. Ashok Sharma the Director of Andaman’s Disaster Management Cell told a section of media today.
Sharma added that the exercise will start at 0730 hrs after receiving mock disaster alerts from Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCIOS), Hyderabad and will be followed with 07 bulletins continuously till 1300 hrs on June 5.
“At 0745 hrs 34 Tsunami Sirens and 13 Electronic Display Board Sirens installed in Andaman and Nicobar Islands will also be blasted for two consecutive intervals with duration of 30 seconds as test siren during the exercise,” the Director of Disaster Management added.
On 23 November 2013, Andaman and Nicobar Administration had conducted State Level Mock Drill and on 25 November 2013, Cyclone ‘Lehar’ had hit Andaman.
