Port Blair, May 19: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh, today interacted with a group of students and faculty members from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Pahargaon at Raj Niwas. During the interaction, the students informed the Lt Governor that as part of the celebration of 30th years of establishment, students and DBRAIT team have identified themes on social challenges and are making efforts to accomplish the tasks by generating awareness in the society.
Interacting with the students, the Lt Governor expressed his happiness on the initiatives of the students and DBRAIT team for taking up social challenges and addressing these issues for the benefit of the society. On the theme of alternative resource to Polybags, wherein the students informed that 1000 bags will be made out of used clothes, the Lt Governor suggested them also to use newspapers for making bags which are more eco-friendly. On the issue of support and assistance to the discarded parents/unattended persons, the Lt Governor advised the students to educate the society to look after such people by generating greater awareness. Similarly, on other social challenges and issues, the Lt Governor observed that while people are aware of their rights, they also need to understand that they have obligations towards the society and the country, he said. It is here, students of DBRAIT can educate the people about their duties and obligations towards the society, Islands and the country, he said. While advising the students to help out and show a way out to victims of drug addition, he suggested to the students to encourage and guide these people to take-up sports and other social activities.
Students also handed over an amount of Rs 1.10 lakh to the Lt Governor as contribution towards LG’s Relief Fund. The Principal of DBRAIT, Shri Utpal Sharma informed that DBRAIT team with the objective of paying back to the society shall continue to contribute Rs 1 lakh towards LG’s Relief Fund every year. The theme “PRATIDAN”-Paying back to the society was co-ordinated by Smt Suraj Moli V S, Dean Academics, Lecturer(SG) Electronics.
