Port Blair, May 16: The Directorate of Tourism, in association with SOVTECH, A&N Islands proposes to introduce SMS alert service to Tourism Service Providers in the Islands. The department will send SMS alerts for tourists/tourism service providers on weather, disaster etc.
Tourism Service Providers in the islands like hoteliers, tour operators, boat operators, scuba dive operators, watersports operators can now register for getting such SMS alerts through the tourism department website: www.andamans.gov.in. In the home page, there is a category titled ‘SMS Alerts’ with a tagline ‘new’. Click on this and SMS registration form will appear. The service provider has to select the category of his service (like tour operator/boat operator, hotel, scuba dive operator etc) from the drop down menu of the registration form and fill other fields like name, address, mobile number etc. Once this is over online, the Service Provider will instantly be receiving a confirmation message on his/her mobile phone.
It is expected that with this initiative, the department would be able to reach out to tourists and tourism service fraternity in the islands with updates on weather/disaster/other tourism industry related messages on their mobile phones.
