Port Blair, Apr 30: Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM, Commander, Coast Guard Region(A&N) called on Lt Governor Lt Gen (Retd) AK Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM at Raj Niwas prior to relinquishing command as COMCG (A&N) on 05 May 14.
The Lt Governor appreciated the efforts of Coast Guard in A&N Island, particularly in conducting Search and Rescue and Anti-poaching operations in a most efficient manner. He also expressed his deep satisfaction over conduct of Coastal Security Exercises by the Indian Coast Guard with perfect synergy of all stakeholders under the aegis of Andaman and Nicobar Command.
The LG, however, emphasized the need to enhance the surveillance efforts of Southern Group of Islands (SGI) by basing ships at Campbell Bay and Kamorta even though there are logistic and technical issues, and also operating aircraft from Campbell Bay. The Regional Commander assured the Lt Governor that all out efforts will be made to base CG assets in SGI at the earliest. A communiqué received from Commandant Rajeev Sharma, PRO, Coast Guard.
