Port Blair, April 27: Lt. Gen (Retd) A.K. Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, Lt. Governor held a review meeting with the Chief Secretary and other senior officers on the issue of relocating dumping municipal waste near Corbyns Cove beach. He observed that visitors and tourists have often complained that since the Corbyns Cove area is an important tourist destination, it is appropriate that the municipal waste dumping site should be closed down and relocated to another alternative site. Besides, it is also proving to be an environmental hazard. He has issued directions to the Chief Secretary to immediately look into this matter and have the dumping of municipal waste relocated to another area.
He has further directed that the quarry near the Corbyns Cove should also be reviewed and if necessary an alternate site provided.
