Port Blair, Mar 19: The first round training for the Presiding Officers and the First Polling Officers under Ferrargunj Tehsil was organised at the Dr. B R Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT) auditorium here today. The Presiding Officers and the First Polling Officers under Ferrargunj Tehsil attended the training. Shri P. Jawahar, RO Andaman & Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency attended the programme & exhorted the participants to take the opportunity & learn all about their role & responsibilities. He expressed hope that the personnel shall help in free, fair & smooth delivery of Elections.
The State Level master Trainer and also Nodal Officer (Training), Shri Som Naidu through a power point presentation covered topics such as general introduction to Election-2014, formation of poll parties, collection of poll materials, materials to be checked and collect, collection of Electoral rolls, checking and collection of EVMs, setting up of poll station, commencement of poll etc. besides do’s and don’ts. He urged for better co-ordination between Presiding Officers and the First Polling Officers to ensure free and fair poll observing all the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. He further said that the number and names of the polling stations will be assigned one day before the issue of Election materials. Polling materials for Port Blair and Ferrargunj Tehsil will be distributed from the Netaji Stadium. The Nodal Officer (Training) also clarified doubts raised by the polling officials on the occasion. In the afternoon session, a movie on EVM training & on role & duties of Presiding/Polling Officers was shown, which was followed by hands on training of EVMs. During the session, handling of EVMs was demonstrated by the master trainers to the trainees.
