Port Blair, Mar 21: Following the recent controversy over power crisis the Lt. Governor of Andaman andNicobar Islandshave recently directed that all lights except bare minimum security lights should be de-energised in the compound of Raj Niwas. As per a press released issued on March 14, the Lt. Governor had also directed to take similar steps in respect of all other official buildings. Further in the press release the LG had directed that while lights at public parks be reduced by de-energising the alternate lights, street lighting may also be curtailed without compromising the overall safety of the public.
But it seems that the PBMC is in mood of following the directions, issued from Raj Niwas. One can see that high beam light at BSNL junction is switched on at4.30 pm by PBMC staffs everyday though everyone knows that darkness falls in Port Blair city only after5.30 pm. Not only this one can see all decorative lights in some of the Secretary’s Gardens are never switched off at evening or late evening hours. One wonders whether saving power is only the responsibility of common man.
