Port Blair, Feb 20: The Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 18th February visited the Netaji Stadium in the evening hours to inspected sports facilities related to cricket.
During his visit the Lt. Governor reportedly asked senior officers of Electricity Department and Department of Sports to restore the flood lights for Day and Night matches.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha the chairperson of PBMC said that he had earlier requested the Lt. Governor to pay a visit to the Netaji Stadium, as the Regional Sports Council is going to organize day and night T-20 matches soon.
The Superintending Engineer of Electricity Department, the Chief Engineer of APWD, the Secretary Sports, the Director of Sports were also present during the LG’s visit.
“Once upon time there used to be regular day and night matches at Netaji Stadium but these matches were stopped for unknown reasons. Such matches attract thousands of spectators and keep youths busy in sports and hence it is now a necessity to have those flood lights in working condition,” he said.
He added that the Lt. Governor has asked the Director of Sports to meet the him with the estimate for repairing the flood lights of Netaji Stadium.
“We are thankful to Lt. Governor for showing deep interest in ensuring proper sports infrastructure for Island youths. This will help youths to come out of the claws of alcoholism,” the Chairperson of PBMC and RSC added.
