The Coast Guard Region (A&N) conducted Intra Region Cross Country Championship 2013-2014 as part of its Annual Sports Calendar on 10 Feb 2014 at Port Blair. The aim of this event was to develop esprit de corps, camaraderie and competitive spirit besides ensuring physical fitness amongst officers and men of this region. The 8 km long cross country championship was flagged off from Coast Guard Enclave at 0530 hrs by Deputy Inspector General KBL Bhatnagar, Chief of Staff, RHQ (A&N). The event was attended by 120 officers/ladies and men of CG fraternity.
The personnel drawn from various ships and establishments of the Coast Guard Region (A&N) were formed into several teams to ensure competitiveness. In the closely contested event , the team comprising runners from CG Fast Patrol Vessels Team Aruna Asaf Ali, Durgabai Deshmukh, Bhikhaiji Cama & Kanaklata Barua stood first. Individual prizes for the first two runners were bagged by M Kuiry, Nvk of ICGS Aruna Asaf Ali and Ganesh Raja, Nvk of ICGS Kanaklata Barua. Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony at Coast Guard Indoor Sports Complex. Speaking on the occasion, IG Murthy congratulated the winners and appreciated the enthusiastic participation by CG fraternity. He also stressed upon the importance of physical fitness and maintenance of good health by one and all. He complemented Commander Coast Guard District Headquarters No-14 Commandant PR Lochen and his team for the efficient conduct of the event.
