Port Blair, Feb 07: The Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands today intervened in the matter of ‘Sexual Harassment of Teacher” and reverted the transfer order of the lady teacher.
Earlier of on 05th February 2014, Andaman Sheekha had reported that a lady teacher who had lodged a complaint against a Vice Principal of Sexual Harassment has been transferred to Car Nicobar by the Education Department.
According to reports, taking immediate action the Lt. Governor asked the Lady teacher to meet him at Raj Niwas on 7th January 2014 but perhaps for the Havelock’s Crisis, the Lt. Governor could not meet the Lady teacher, however, the Secretary to LG met the complainant and intimated her that she will not have to go to Car Nicobar on transfer till the inquiry ends. However the Secretary reportedly told that lady teacher that further decision in this case will be taken only after the inquiry on this sexual harassment case is over.
Such quick action by Lt. Governor has come as a great source of courage for working women of these Islands. What would be the outcome of the inquiry regarding sexual harassment is a different issue but for now this move of Lt. Governor has saved the complainant from further harassment. However an official release from Raj Niwas in this issue is still awaited.
