Port Blair, January 29: In the aftermath of the boat tragedy, in which 21 people lost their lives, the Lt Governor has ordered that an Enforcement Cell be constituted immediately to check on the operations of all tourist boats and safety of the passengers. This Cell will comprise of Police, representatives of Shipping and the Tourism Departments. Chief Secretary has been asked to work out the modalities in this regard. Separately, the Lt Governor has also asked for streamlining of all water sports activities, particularly with regard to safety of users. Directions have been given for immediate action in this regard.
Kudos! to Hon’ble LG for causing instructions to form Enforcement Cell. But, should have also included some from civil society. Also, with this we would like know how sci boats / water scooters are allowed in Corbyn’s cove, which happens to be the lonely beach near to the city. You can see these boats criss-crossing near to swimmers, thereby pumping up dirty water caused due to PBMC dumping yard of at Brookshabad.
