Port Blair, Dec 10: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A & N Parliamentary Constituency visited the Ministry of Home Affairs and presented the details of the damages/losses occurred due to the massive cyclone “Lehar”, which had hit these Islands for about 2 Hours alongwith Heavy rain with wind speed of 90 to 100 Kms per hour on 25/11/2013.
The MP supported with photos vide his letter dated 06/12/2013, has raised the issues of damages/losses of Plantation, Fishing dinghies, Residential houses, Business Establishment, shops, Fish-Culture, Land Sliding and other various losses occurred due to the cyclone “Lehar” for which the quantum of Financial assistance/Compensation are appears to be very nominal than to the actual losses damages before the Joint Secretary (ANL), Ministry of Home Affairs, GOL, New Delhi.
The MP has further contacted the Joint Secretary on 06/12/2013 and requested for conducting the survey by the High Power Committee to assess the actual losses/damages of Properties/Horticulture Forest etc. and to review of the norms of financial assistance for the benefit of the Islanders, so as to restore their livelihood.
