Port Blair, Mar 13: The concluding function of food processing training programme organized by UNNATI with the support of ENI India Ltd/ ONGC and NABARD to members of Self Help Groups of Rangachang and Lambaline concluded to day i.e. 13.03.2012 at Food Processing training centre of UNNATI at Dollygunj. The President, UNNATI appreciated trainees for the keen interest taken by them in learning various practical demonstrations conducted by the Food Technologist and trainers of UNNATI and support extended by line departments, PRIs and SHGs. He mentioned that he specially invited officials NABARD and A & N State Coop. Bank who are playing most important role for extending financial assistance and marketing support. He also narrated several important points taken up by UNNATI with the Administration for extending various facilities to food processing trainees and to popularize food processing and highlighted the employment opportunities it provides and potential and scope of food processing in these Islands to increase income of Islanders.
Shri. V. A. Raghavan, Manager, NABARD explained various schemes of NABARD for availing financial assistance and marketing support. He also explained in details about new guidelines of JLG. He suggested food processing trainees to form Joint Liability Group to avail financial assistance to start production activities. NABARD is also supporting UNNATI for implementation of Joint Liability Groups.
Mr. Ravinder Rao, General Manager, A & N State Coop. Bank also explained in details about availing financial assistance from Bank and advised trainees to start production activities in the initial stage in small scale to capture local market. He also suggested to avail the quality training of food processing being given by food technologist of UNNATI for which both raw materials and market are available.
The certificates to 30 successful candidates in coconut and marine based products were distributed by Mr. V. A. Raghavan, Manager, NABARD and General Manager, A & N State Coop. Bank. Like other areas food processing committee was also formed for Port Blair area for sharing experiencing and pursuing their demands with the Administration. During interaction various points raised by the trainees will be referred to concerned departments of the Administration for taking appropriate action at their level.
