Port Blair, Nov 13: The Member of Parliament, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray has urged to constitute Service Selection Committee to recruit Teachers in the Education Department. In his letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, he said that the number of CTET qualified candidates in the Islands is very less, due to lack of coaching facilities here.
He pointed out that no candidate from the Nicobari Community too has been reported to have qualified the CTET.
Bishnu added that in the present format of recruitment there is chance that many candidates from the Mainland may apply for the posts and the Islands youth would be deprived of the opportunity. Citing the example of the recruitment process conducted recently in the Forest department for the post of Forest Guard, the MP said that around 25000 applications were received from all over India.
Advocating for the constitution of Service Selection Committee, Mr. Ray said that during the IDA meeting in 2003 held at Port Blair under the Chairmanship of the then Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, directions were given to constitute Service Selection Committee, but no Committee has ever been constituted so far. Mr. Ray said that the present mandatory condition of having CTET qualification should be removed and recruitment of teachers should be done through SSC. This would restrict the candidates from mainland and thus the Islands’ candidates may get sufficient opportunity of Employment. The SSC may be allowed to adopt suitable norms for the selection, removing the requirement of CTET qualification, the MP said.
