Port Blair, Oct 07: The Port Blair Municipal Council is planning to built a memorial for the Param Veer Chakra Awardees at tourists hot-spot Marina Park, of Port Blair, the capital town of A & N Islands. The PBMC is planning to put photographs and all available details of all nearly 21 heroes of Indian Armed forces who have been honoured with Param Veer Chakra Award, the highest military decoration of India.
“The memorial will be a tribute to the great heroes of our country. This memorial will certainly inspire the future generations to serve the nation with honour,” K Ganeshan the Chairperson of Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
Meanwhile, on Sunday morning, the Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lt. Gen (Retd.) A K Singh, visited Marina Park area, where he was apprised of the proposed memorial for the Param Veer Chakra Awardees.
During the visit the Lt. Governor issued directions to PBMC to ensure the work is completed by the end of December 2013.
“Having such Memorial will be a honour for entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Marina Park is visited by thousands of tourists everyday, who will now be able to know about the real heroes of India,” Ganeshan added.
According to details Of the 21 PVC awardees, 20 are from the Indian Army and one from the Indian Air Force.
After Kargil war in 1999, four Jawans, Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey (Posthumous), Yogendra Singh Yadav, Rifleman Sanjay Kumar, Captain Vikram Batra (Posthumous) were honoured with Param Veer Chakra.
