Port Blair, Sept 30: On 29th September, 2013, at Neil Island, Mahila and Youth Conference of Congress party was held under the leadership of PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma.
In his inaugural speech Kuldeep requested the womenfolk and youths to strengthen the hands of the Congress Party.
“Whatever developments are found in India and also in these islands, are the contributions of this Party only,” Kuldeep said.
On the local issues, Kuldeep demanded that more sea connectivity be provided to this island as it is the bowl of vegetables and for lack of boats, the perishable vegetables and also milk go waste.
Kuldeep also demanded for English medium school in Science and Hindi medium school. He demanded air connectivity, more passenger boats and well developed telecom services for Neil so that inflow of tourists may increase, which will not only earn exchequer but local unemployed youths will also get scope of employment.
Kuldeep also demanded that more seats be reserved in the boats and filtered drinking water for the local populace. Kuldeep then briefed about the policies, plans and programmes of UPA Government viz Right to Education, Right to Information, food security bill, NRHM, Bharat Nirman, Right to fair Compensation and transparency in Land Acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement bill and National Food Security ordinance etc.
“The Food Security Bill has special focus on the needs of poorest of the poor, women and children. In case of non-supply of foodgrains now people will get Food Security Allowance while on LARR Bill the people were made to understand that in the present bill, it becomes the duty and responsibility of the Government acquiring the land, be it for Govt purpose or for private projects, just not the acquisition of land by paying monitory compensation but to ensure resettlement and rehabilitation of the displaced land owners and also the people whose livelihood are dependents on the land which has been acquired. The Bill will replace the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, a nearly 120-year-old law enacted during British rule,” he said.
