Mayabunder, Sept 25: It was Congress vs Congress once again. Just two days after PBMC’s Chairperson Election, where Congress candidate Mr. K Ganeshan defeated another Congress Candidate, J K Nair, in N & M Andaman’s ZP Chairperson Election, Congress candidate Mr. K Srinivasan today defeated another Congress Candidate Mr. Anil Mondal.
In an another nail biting election of Zilla Parishad Adhyaksh North & Middle Andaman held today at Mayabunder, Mr. K.Srinivasan who is actually belongs to Congress Party contested the election of Adhyaksh as an Independent Candidate against Mr. Anil Mondal as official candidate of Congress for Adhyaksh post. Mr. Sony Thomas who also belongs to Congress Party contested the election against official congress candidate Mrs. Panchavarnam for Upadhyaksh post.
The election was carried out at Conference hall at Mayabunder, by the Deputy Commissioner of N & M Andaman, Mr. Sanjay Kumar, I.A.S. The Congress Party fielded Mr. Anil Mondal as official candidate for Adhyaksh and Mrs. Panchavarnam for Upadhyaksh. Both got 7 votes each, even though Congress party is having 12 Zilla Parishad members and BJP & TMC each having two members.
It means that along with the BJP & TMC candidates 3 other congress members also voted against the Congress Party today.
Soon after the declaration of the results the newly elected Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad N & M Andaman speaking exclusively with Andaman Sheekha said that “this is the victory of youths and I am having full faith on Rahul Gandhi , Sonia Gandhi and PCC president Kuldeep Rai Sharma and I am also having full faith on the policies and programmes of Congress Party on National level and local level.”
When Andaman Sheekha said that why he contested the election against the Congress party, when he is having full faith on the party, Mr. K Srinivasan said “I want to portrait myself as a youth Icon of the Congress Party so I fielded myself. Other people, along with the BJP and TMC candidates expressed faith on me so I won. I regret going against Congress party. I shall go to Port Blair soon and try to meet PCC Chief Kuldeep Rai Sharma and ask for forgiveness.”
“My main motto will be development of these Islands and going against the party will not affect with me and I will remain as Congress Party worker always. All rumors about joining of BJP is totally false baseless,” he said.
However sounding caution he said indicated possible change in faith. “In case Congress party takes any disciplinary action against me then only I shall take appropriate steps till them, I am a faithful congress worker and will work for the strengthening of the Congress Party. I will work along with all the 16 members for overall development of these Islands,” Mr. K Srinivasan said.
